Abstract: For many classes of $\mathrm{C}^{ast}$-algebras, two $*$-homomorphisms are approximately unitarily equivalent if and only if they induce the same element in KL. In this paper, we investigate what additional information are needed for approximate unitary equivalence to imply strong approximate unitary equivalence. We show there exists a K-theoretical obstruction.
